Nothingbut goes to Rio Olympics

The startup was selected today in Trento in the European finals of the HYPE Global Sport Innovation Competition. There were 123 participants from all over Europe and ten made it to tonight’s finals

Nothingbutnet won the ticket for the world finals of the HYPE Global Sport Innovation Competition that will take place next 2 August in Rio, in the middle of the 2016 Olympic games.
Nothingbutnet, a Spanish startup, was selected tonight at the European finals, in a ceremony organized at the department of Humanities of the University of Trento. There were 123 candidates from all over Europe and only ten were selected for tonight’s event in Trento, six of them from Italy.
The Nothingbutnet multidisciplinary team works to introduce technology in sports. Specifically it develops biomedical indices survey instruments and game details (speed and distance travelled) for basketball teams.
The participating startups were young companies focused on products and technologies for sports or for the well-being, active tourism, healthy lifestyles and health industries.
The special guest of the event was Monica Lucarelli, head of the programme “education, sociale e territorio” of the Committee for Rome 2024. Francesca Dallapè briefly addressed the audience; as a diver she won eight gold medals with Tania Cagnotto at European championships and will participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The winner of the regional competition was announced at 20.30 by the Rector of the University of Trento and president of the jury, Paolo Collini. Amir Raveh, managing partner of HYPE, was on stage with him. The members of the jury were, with Rector Collini: Luca Bertone (TIM Working Capital), Claire Lewis (Strategy Consultant on Sport, Media and Tech), Burkhard Dümler (Director Program & Projects IT Innovation at Adidas), Beatrice Agostini (Cassa Centrale) and Laura Capranica (Eas president, professor at University of Foro Italico)..
HYPE Global Sport Innovation Competition
The Global Sport Innovation Competition is organized and created by the Hype Foundation (http://hype-foundation.org/aboutus.html), which unites a group of entrepreneurs from all over the world who share the view that sport can be a drive to innovation. In this first edition, the competition reached over 70,000 innovators from 46 countries offering them the opportunity to present their business ideas - apps for athletes, trainers, and fans, wearable technologies, sport food and infrastructures for tv broadcasting - in an international challenge where sports are at the centre of attention. The market of sport innovation accounts for a global turnover of some 250 billion USD and has a great growth potential.
The regional selection for continental Europe (Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands) took place in Trento, at the city’s University before an audience of investors, funders, business angels and other actors from the sports and innovation industries. An international showroom for the ten best startups competing for a spot to represent Europe in Rio. But it was also the occasion to bring to the national and international attention the link between sport, education, research, innovation and social, economic and business development.
The finals in Trentino, why? For Trentino this event is the natural continuation of a path that started back in 2013 with the international conference "Sport as a driver for innovation", during the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, to which later followed, in 2015, a study on the economic impact of sports in the Province. The representatives of the most prominent sport organizations and institutions were in Trento for the finals: Coni, FISU (International University Sports Federation), European Athlete as Student (EAS), and organisations representing the University, research and innovation, like CRUI (the Conference of Italian University Rectors), the European Commission (via a video message, with the departments of Education, culture, youth and sports and Research, science and innovation), the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Municipality of Trento.
